A Dog's Tale
We went for a nice car ride today,
You patted me every second or so.
I saw your eyes were puffy and red,
But a gentle smile you still did show.
When we were nearing our destination,
Another loving pat you gave to me.
But past your strong and sweet facade,
A tear had broken free.
I whined to you softly as you started to cry,
I knew in my heart you didn't want to say goodbye.
For nights I've heard you crying,
For days you've acted strong.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said
"what you're doing isn't wrong."
I know this must be hard for you,
We've been together since I was born.
And when you heard of my illness,
Your heart was clearl
